How we rank — and how we're paid
Every quote site says it's on your side. We built ours so you can check. Here is the whole mechanism, in plain English.
Two separate systems, one direction
The engine that ranks your plans has no access to the table of who pays us. It sorts plans by what happens to you — your real monthly cost after subsidy, your normal-year total, your bad-year cap, your doctors in network, your drugs covered. It cannot see a commission because there is no wire connecting the two.
Only after the ranking is fixed do we look up which plans pay us, and we print that on each one — "we earn a commission if you enroll" or "we earn nothing; it's here because it wins for you." Both kinds appear whenever both exist. The ranking couldn't see the difference, and now you can.
- You answer five questionsState, household, income, how much care you use, whether you could absorb a $4,000 surprise. No name, no email, no phone.
- The Engine ranks — blind to moneyPlans are sorted by fit for you. The compensation table is physically absent from this step.
- We label how we're paidAfter the order is locked, each plan shows whether it pays us. The unpaid ones are never dropped or demoted.
What we will never do
- Reorder your shortlist because a plan pays more. There is no sponsored slot inside results.
- Hide a plan that pays us nothing. The direct marketplace option is always shown.
- Ask for your phone number. There is no phone field anywhere on this site.
We audit this quarterly by re-running shortlists with the payments randomized. If the order changes, that's a severity-one failure. The door may be paid for; the ranking does not lie.
